When do we begin to trust?

Today I met this little girl in a restaurant bathroom she couldn't have been more than 3 years old. I walked into the bathroom and I saw her struggle to reach for the sink handle to turn on the water, I didn't even know this girls name but I lifted her on my knee and turned on the water, then she began to reach for the soap which yet again was out of her reach so once again I held her up and she finished washing her hands, when I saw that little girl to small to reach the soap I set out my hand in help and she trusted me some teenage girl she didn't even know, at this point her mother came into the bathroom to see me helping her daughter dry her hands, the woman thanked me for my help. I don't know why but I began to think when do we begin to trust? This little girl trusted me for help, I know it wasn't much but it made me feel great inside. When do we begin to trust? I believe we are born with trust, the real question is when is the trust broken?  we are designed in gods mind to trust everyone despite their race, facial features, or size, but when there is betrayal that trust is broken. That little girl in the bathroom who I never learned the name of made an impact in my life, be it small she made me realize that sometimes we find ourselves trusting unlikely people like she trusted in me. She made me realize that no matter how independent we are or stubborn we become we still require help from others and help requires a form of trust, whether you invest that trust in a stranger or in someone we know, we cant live our lives in fear of betrayal.

  1. So true! Sometimes we learn such intriguing lessons from the most unlikely ppl and situations! Great illustration of how we need to trust and get help from others sometimes. We are relational beings and can't do it all alone!
